Around Oxford

Oxford’s principal workshop in political theory, running since 1983. Papers from internal and external speakers are pre-circulated and discussed each week; the page carries the current and past termly programmes. Run in association with DPIR and the Oxford Political Theory Network.

The umbrella network for political theory at Oxford: analytical political philosophy, the history of political thought, critical theory, and feminism. Its mailing lists advertise the many seminars, workshops, and the annual Graduate Conference in Political Theory across the University.

The Department’s political-theory seminar series and working papers, on justice, equality, and the foundations of politics, much of it shared ground with philosophy and law.

An informal graduate forum, founded in 1997, for new and original work in legal, moral, and political philosophy. Papers are circulated to the mailing list in advance of each discussion.

An inclusive and supportive platform for the exchange of knowledge and the fostering of imaginative ideas and critical thinking in legal philosophy. It works to create the best possible intellectual environment for the flourishing of women’s scholarship in legal theory and the philosophy of law, through conferences, work-in-progress seminars, and a mentoring system. Oxford is a regular host, having hosted in 2024 and 2026.

Work across normative, applied, and meta-ethics, convened by David Owens and held in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre.

Oxford’s long-running graduate philosophical society, with talks across the discipline (frequently in ethics, political philosophy, and the philosophy of law) followed by open discussion.

Seminars and the annual public Uehiro Lectures, bringing analytic philosophy to bear on the most pressing ethical questions of the day.

Lunchtime research seminars, expert-insight sessions, and an annual lecture on the ethics, law, and politics of artificial intelligence, a frequent partner of the PLP Colloquium.
