The H.L.A. Hart – Jonathan Mance Visiting Fellowships in PLP

Visiting fellowships in Philosophy, Law & Politics at University College, Oxford.

The H.L.A. Hart Visiting Fellowship scheme was inaugurated at University College in 2005, with the generous support of University College old members, to allow moral, and political, and legal philosophers (both junior and senior) to spend one term on research leave in Oxford, as guests of the College, following in Hart’s own footsteps. Hart was a Professorial Fellow at Univ from 1952 to 1969 (while the Professor of Jurisprudence) and later a Senior Research Fellow. More about Hart.

The Hart Fellowships scheme ended in 2015 when our funding expired, but was happily revived when the leading jurist, Baron Jonathan Mance, generously endowed the fellowship. In recognition of his generosity, University College renamed the fellowship the H.L.A. Hart – Jonathan Mance Visiting Fellowship in Philosophy, Law & Politics. The new Hart–Mance visiting fellow will be a distinguished academic or practitioner who has made important contributions to any of the fields of philosophy, law, and politics.
